Ayalew Mesfin was a legendary figure in Ethiopia’s music scene in the 1970s (despite being forced underground by the oppressive Derg regime). 'Wegene (My Countryman)', constructed from Mesfin’s now-rare 7” singles catalogue, is part of a new series of reissues telling the story of Ethiopia’s music scene and his role within it.
