The astonishing outpouring of rock and roll in the 1960s in Australia and New Zealand gave
birth to such iconic bands such as the Easybeats and the Masters Apprentices. It also
launched the careers of a generation of musicians who would go on to greater national and
international fame with their later groups and production work (the Bee Gees, Daddy Cool,
AC/DC, Little River Band, Spectrum, Coloured Balls and more). Hailed by Stuart Coupe as a
towering achievement, by Ugly Things magazine as indispensable and by Shindig!
magazine as invaluable, Wild About You! captures the story of Australian and New Zealand
garage rock, R&B, beat pop and soul during this era.
35 bands are covered ranging from iconic heavy hitters such as The La De Das, The Loved
Ones, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, the Purple Hearts, the Atlantics and the Missing Links
through to wild and brilliant lesser knowns such as The Others, Toni McCann, Chants R&B,
and The Creatures. Beyond these profiles and interviews, which are accompanied by
detailed discographies, the authors list the top 100 beat and garage songs of the era.
Heavily illustrated throughout this is the definitive work on these bands, and compulsory
reading for Ö60s obsessives, garage punk enthusiasts and music fans alike.
To mark the book»s tenth anniversary a concert paying tribute to the bands it chronicles is
being planned for when lockdown restrictions are lifted on gigs. In the meantime discount
copies are currently available for only $20 (plus postage) from Greville Records-
